FAQS
Frequently asked questions
The essentials on eligibility, timing, what to expect, and how teams are formed.

Who is eligible to apply?
CCT works with nonprofits in the greater Boston area that have reached a stage of stability and readiness for a strategic project. Your organization should have 501(c)(3) status, a compelling mission, a full-time paid Executive Director plus at least three full-time paid staff, an established Board of Directors, an annual budget of roughly $500,000 to $5 million, and no religious or political affiliation. We serve constituents in youth, healthcare, social action and advocacy, education, human services, environment and energy, and the arts.
What does a Signature Engagement cost?
Nothing. Each five-month consultancy is valued at approximately $100,000 and is provided free of charge. CCT is an all-volunteer organization of experienced business professionals, so there is no fee to apply or to work with a team.
When are applications open?
Applications are accepted from early July to early September each year for the project cycle that begins the following January. Selected organizations are notified in the fall after application review, interviews, and site visits. If the window is closed, submit an inquiry and we will email you when it reopens.
How are teams formed and matched?
After the Board approves clients and projects, project descriptions go to our volunteer pool and volunteers rank their preferences. Our Volunteer Committee then builds each team of 6 to 8 consultants plus two Co-Project Managers and a Project Sponsor, matching functional skills, industry experience, and availability to what your project needs.
What is expected of our organization?
Sponsorship from both your Executive Director and Board Chair, a tightly scoped strategic question that is critical to your mission, and a designated point of contact who can meet with the team, share data, and open doors to stakeholders. Most work happens off-site; teams typically meet with you at kick-off, at checkpoints, and for the final presentation between January and May.
What happens after the engagement ends?
Teams deliver strategic recommendations to your board and senior staff, usually as a presentation with supporting analysis and exhibits, and often with implementation guidance. Implementation is your responsibility. CCT follows up immediately after the project and again one year later; clients consistently tell us the plans continue to guide decision-making well after the engagement.
